Question 1

What is The Rida?

Accepted Answer

The Rida is a narrative-intelligence publication that helps readers understand important news through deep-dive summaries and narrative analysis, examining both the facts of a story and how leading publications interpret and frame it.

Question 2

What does The Rida mean by media bias / news bias?

Accepted Answer

The Rida defines media bias as how news stories can be shaped by the selection, emphasis, language, sourcing, and context used—without necessarily making the reporting factually false.

Question 3

Why should I care about media news bias if the facts themselves are correct?

Accepted Answer

A news report can present entirely accurate facts and still create a biased or incomplete understanding of an event. Bias can arise through the facts that are emphasized, what is left out, which causes are highlighted, and what comparisons are used. This is especially important during politically charged, emotional, or rapidly developing events, when the first narrative we encounter can strongly shape how we interpret later information.

Question 4

How does The Rida help me understand a news story?

Accepted Answer

The Summary is a deep dive which begins beneath the headlines. It reconstructs the event using the best available evidence: primary material where possible, credible reporting, relevant data, institutional context and the history necessary to understand why the story matters.

The Narrative Analysis then changes the angle of view. It examines how different publications have converted that underlying reality into competing accounts: what each considers important, what it minimises, whose voices it amplifies, what assumptions it makes and where its interpretation departs from others.

Question 5

What does The Rida cover?

Accepted Answer

The Rida covers news and analysis on issues that materially shape public life, institutions, markets, and how we understand the world. Our coverage focuses on: Politics, Government & Public Policy (30%) — Elections, legislation, regulation, political institutions, governance and public power. Business, Economy & Markets (25%) — Companies, capital, economic policy, competition, regulation and wealth creation. Geopolitics & World Affairs (20%) — War, diplomacy, trade, global power dynamics and developments relevant to India. Law, Society & Institutions (15%) — Courts, rights, education, social change and public institutions. Technology, Science & the Future (10%) — AI, digital platforms, climate, scientific developments and transformative technologies. These percentages are editorial guidelines rather than fixed quotas. The Rida is written from India but covers global events whenever they have meaningful consequences for Indian readers.

Question 6

How does The Rida decide what deserves coverage?

Accepted Answer

The Rida does not aim to cover everything. It focuses on stories that are consequential, contested, misunderstood, or likely to remain important beyond the immediate news cycle. Stories receive attention when they involve significant disagreements over facts, conflicting media narratives, missing historical or institutional context, overlooked primary sources, or public conclusions that go beyond the available evidence. The goal is not to inform readers about everything, but to help them understand the issues that matter most with greater depth and clarity.
